Privacy notice

This site is run by a lay initiative of Catholic families in Fourways, within the Archdiocese of Johannesburg. It is not an official project of the Archdiocese.

The responsible person and Information Officer for the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) is Chinazo Onwu. Any question about your information, or a request to see, correct or delete it, should go to her.

For one purpose: to prepare a submission to the Archdiocese of Johannesburg showing how many Catholic families live in the Fourways area, what those households look like, where they currently worship, and whether the community could support a parish and a priest. The Archdiocese asked us these questions directly. We do not use your information for anything else.

Your family name and the name of one contact person, a phone number, and optionally an email address. Your suburb. How many adults, teenagers, young children and elderly people are in your household. Which parish you currently attend and how long it takes you to get there. How long you have lived in the area. What you would want from a parish here, how you might help, and any indication you give of support you could offer.

We never ask for children’s names or dates of birth, only how many. No child is identified anywhere in this data. We do not ask for your address, your identity number or your income.

We record your information only with your consent, which you give by submitting the form with the consent box ticked. You may untick it, in which case we do not record anything. Because the information includes a religious affiliation, which POPIA treats as special personal information, that consent matters and we ask for it explicitly. Where the household includes children, the person completing the form confirms that they are the parent or guardian and consents on the children’s behalf.

Totals only are published on this site, and only once enough families have registered that no individual household can be identified from them. Breakdowns for very small groups are withheld for the same reason.

The submission to the Archdiocese contains totals and analysis, not lists of families. Your contact details may be shared with the Archdiocese or a parish so that they can follow up with you, which is part of what you agree to when you complete the form, and nothing else. We never sell your information and we never publish individual details. Your family name appears publicly among supporters only if you specifically ask us to list it.

We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit this page, roughly where they come from, and whether they go on to be counted. It sets cookies in your browser and records technical information such as your approximate location and the kind of device you are using. We use it only to understand whether word is spreading and which channels are working. It is not linked to the details you give on the form, and it is not used to identify you. Browser settings and extensions that block analytics work normally here.

In a database hosted by Supabase, with the site itself hosted by Vercel. Both store data outside South Africa, which POPIA permits where the recipient is bound by comparable protections; both are contractually bound to protect it. Only the organisers of this initiative can read the underlying records.

Until the Archdiocese has reached a decision on this appeal, and no longer than twenty-four months after you give it, unless you have asked us to keep you informed about a parish in Fourways. You can ask us to delete your family’s record at any time and we will do so.

You may ask what we hold about your family, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or withdraw your consent. You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa. Contact Chinazo Onwu first and we will put it right.
